Kokeshi doll was originally made as children’s toy made of woods in Tohoku district in Japan and was most popular from Edo period to Meiji period. Its production once got reduced after that, however, it came to be accepted with great favor among adults. They began collecting kokeshi dolls and it revived the culture. Today, they are widely regarded with approval as traditional folk arts or art works and are booming among some young people. There are 11 major production areas for kokeshi(Tsuchiyu,Yajiroh,Tohgatta,Naruko,Sakunami,Yamagata,Zaoh,Hijiori,Kijiyama,Nanbu,Tsugaru) .
