What is Gosho Doll?
The Gosho doll is a traditional Japanese doll that imitates the appearance of a child that has been displayed at various festivals such as the imperial court’s celebration, childbirth, and marriage.
It was produced in Kyoto during the Edo period (1603-1868).
Gosho doll is designed after adorable and healthy bady. Gosho doll features a big head, white skin and chubby body.
Gosho doll represents Japanese dolls cultur wich is loved from 400years ago.
The production period is about one year, and the old-fashioned technique is still the same.
The wood carving doll which is made from light and beautiful paulownia wood is coated with grinded powder that is made from the oyster shell many times, dried and polished. Finally, write down the eyes, nose and mouth.
In end of Edo period, Gosho doll used to be in return for a present which daimyo or Edo government gave nobel or imperial family. It was said to bring high dignity and spirituality due to its noble shape and high craftsmanship.So Gosho doll was loved by the upper samurai class people such as Daimyou(大名, the feudal lord) and Shougun(将軍, general).
Shogun wives displayed Gosho dolls in their rooms to wish for easy delivery(for there baby ) and warding off evil.
Since the Imperial Gosho dolls have been displayed at various celebrations such as ceremonies, childbirths, and marriages in the palace. There are various types of dolls, including naked ones and costumed ones.
The design which makes reminding chubby body, that expresses the feelings of people which pray for the healthy growth of children, that will never change forever.

Dolls Museum is located in Kanazawa city, Japan exhibiting more than 600 traditional Japanese dolls. We display various types of Japanese dolls, such as ICHIMATSU Dolls, Hina Dolls, Kokeshi Dolls, all of which are adorable and great to see in person. Payment method
We accept payment through Stripe(Credit card), PayPal, both of which are secure payment methods. If you prefer other payment method, please contact us. After confirming your payment, we will apply for an export permit. You may either pay in JPY or USD. The price is set in Japanese Yen. Prices in other currencies are automatically calculated based on the latest exchange rate.
Shipping Duration
We normally ship via EMS (Express Mail Service) provided by Japan Post. It usually takes at least 5-14 days to deliver the package after you place an order. We will use DHL instead for those who ordered from USA or Australia as EMS temporarily stops shipping to these countries due to COVID-19. We offer Free International Shipping as long as we can ship your order by either EMS or DHL. (USA, Australia only)
